So this mom decided that the light-cord over my entryway would make the perfect home

And she dutifully sat on the clutch of 2 eggs

And we were very lucky to find two hungry babies the other morning

Now mom stays away from the nest except for feeding time as to not attract any predators. They grow quickly so won't be around but a few weeks before they will learn to fly and eventually leave. For now I have something fun to watch while I work from home. These are tough shots to get due to the lack of light under my roof overhang and the fact that they are TINY!

Wow. I have been searching the past couple of weeks for hummer nests. No luck this year. And momma comes right to your house and builds her nest on your porch. Very nice R.J

If my limited experience is anything to rely on, the mother will still feed them fairly close to the nest after they have fledged.

From what I have read Bill, that is correct for a couple of days, then once she has shown them how to eat, its time to go! The above shots were from a tripod in my garage, this morning I set it up inside looking out the front window of the house. Another tricky situation as the windows give an odd color cast.

It looks like your telephoto lens + distance gives you better photo angles than standing directly under the nest. It is nice to have such a good subject to photograph without having to leave home during this Covid-19 lock down.

Incredible closeups! How fortunate she set up housekeeping in such a great place for photos!

Keep an eye out for another nest later this summer. Anna's hummingbirds up here can have two clutches: the first in late winter-early spring and a second in the summer.

You have done well, and the Nest is excellent a lot of the photos I see on the topic! I like the Nest on the light-cord first one, and the sharpness of the other photographs are great too. Thanks for sharing them.
