    Some eastern birds

Popped over to eastern WA last Sunday to look for avocets... found them, as well as a couple of other species, including black-necked stilts and a "lifer", Wilson's phalaropes... fun trip!

    Golden-crowned kinglet

Got some nice shots of these little beauties at Hawks Prairie ponds a week or so ago...

    Rails

Great shots! You're right, rails are not terribly hard to find, you just have to be patient and wait for them to show themselves. They often do not, which is why people think they're so hard to see, but eventually they do show themselves, and when they do, they're not terribly shy.

    Nisqually bittern

Spent about an hour photographing this American bittern at Nisqually a few days ago. It wasn't at all shy, foraging along the edge of a slough with little concern for the array of large lenses being pointed at it...

    Juanita Bay

Great shots! I'm not really surprised, though... Juanita Bay is one of the better birding locations in King County. When I lived up in that area and went to JBP often, it wasn't unusual to see multiple species like this in a single afternoon.

    Sad news

It is with sadness that I inform you all of the passing of long-time member and bird photographer Bill Anderson. Bill was a prolific photographer, a major contributor to this site, and a fine person. Three days ago, unfortunately, he lost a battle with cancer. I met him many times at his...

Snow bunting (AKA the "toasted marshmallow)

Made the trek from Chehalis up to Stanwood a couple of weeks ago to see the snow bunting that's been calling Eide Road home for the past month and a half or so. I'd seen these little birds before a couple of times, but never gotten a decent phot of one, so I bit the bullet and made the journey...

    A snowy day

Thanks, Bill! I don't normally care for birds perched on houses, but as rare as a good snowing sighting is, I'll make an exception... ;)

    A snowy day

Went up to Seattle for Thanksgiving with my daughter and her husband, and took advantage of the trip to stop off for some shots of the snowy owl in the Queen Anne neighborhood... an owl on a rooftop is not my preferred setting, but with snowies, I'll take what I can get! LOL!

    Red-tail afternoon

Wow... just realized I haven't been on here in ages, so I thought I'd pop in and post something so y'all would know I'm still alive! LOL! Spent some quality time with a cooperative red-tailed hawk at Nisqually NWR yesterday afternoon... here are some samples of what I got.

    Willow flycatcher

I've certainly tried not to let it interfere with my enjoyment of nature!

    Uber Eats for swallows?

Nah... just mom doing a fly-by feeding. Taken at Nisqually Wildlife Refuge about a week ago...

    Willow flycatcher

It's always fun to get these little guys, especially when they cooperate and land in the open, with a nice backdrop for bokeh, and in perfect light!

    It's hummer season!

    Thanks, Bill!

    It's hummer season!

Got my first good shot of a rufous this year at a park in Centralia. The hummers love the bee balm flowers, and last year I spent a number of afternoons photographing both Anna's and rufous hummers on the blooms. Here's a female rufous to get this season off to a good start...

The spring visitor - Townsend's Warbler

Nice! I love these little guys! Just saw my first one this year!

    Red-breasted nuthatch

Thanks, Terry! I've been getting out, just haven't been posting as much as I used to...

    Red-breasted nuthatch

Thanks, Bill! Still down here in Chehalis, just haven't been posting much of late. I'll try to do better! ;)
