Heron's nest at Medina
there is a heron rookery at Medina Park just west of Bellevue, WA. it's a small one, only 3 or 4 nests in a cottonwood over a pond, but unlike some of the larger rookeries, you can get quite close. from the edge of the pond to the nests is about 30 yards, with an upward angle of about 45 degrees. you can actually walk right under the tree, but of course you can't see anything from there...
anyway, here are some shots i took there a couple of years ago. the young ones are probably almost ready to leave the nest, but still waiting for Mom to feed them. these were shot with a Canon 30D and Sigma EX 80-400 lens at 400mm.
dude... whatcha lookin' at?
is that mom???
geez, mom, we been waitin' for hours! what took ya so long?
oh quit complaining, and wait your turn!
