Practical application for digiscoping

Digiscoping gave me the extra "reach" this morning to document a Common Loon that was sporting a covering of what appeared to be hydraulic fluid. This is the second one that I've seen in this condition in the past two years, in the same location.
I called the Coast Guard who in turn called WDFW and they're both looking into it.
In these photos (I have several more) you can see the golden brown oil that the loon was trying very hard to remove.

I have looked through high powered spotting scopes and noticed how much the slightest vibrations are amplified. It will be interesting to learn your secrets to overcome this.
