Selective color is popular, so much that it's a bit of a cliche'. Because of that, I tend to avoid it.

However, there are times that it can come in handy. The difference it made in this photo is a good example. This is from a recent Civil War Re-enactment at the Mt Rainier Scenic RR. The edit did too things, toned down the color and made it look vintage as well as diminishing unwanted background elements.
