    Lights, camera, action!

Thanks for commenting, Cher. There are actually a couple of projects shooting in Portland this summer that need extras. It only pays minimum wage, but I think it might be fun for a day or two.

    Lights, camera, action!

The upcoming feature film Crowley has been shooting in Portland for the last couple of months. I went to Pioneer Square recently to catch a glimpse of the action. You could be a star Director Tom Vaughn Look over there Extras waiting for their cue Thanks for looking!

    Oregon Zoo - Portland, OR

Great shots, Bob! I especially like the last photo of the yawning tiger. Bob, you knew this topic would draw me in. I love the Oregon Zoo! Nice collection of animals, reasonably humane accommodations and a beautiful setting for visitors.

2009 Portland Rose Festival - Waterfront Village

Spent some time wandering around the Waterfront Village while waiting for the fireworks to start. There were clowns... A juggler... And carnival rides...

    Portland Fireworks, where to shoot?

Some of it is controllable, I "developed" my RAW files for color and detail over brightness, then brought the brightness back up later in my workflow. Mine don't have the punch that some of Bob's have, though. An ND filter might work, Bob, as it would give you longer exposures without...

    Portland Fireworks, where to shoot?

Thanks all for the comments! I don't know, Bob, maybe I was there incognito :) . I used shutter priority mode - started at 15sec and ISO 200 (which I had used successfully in the past). I quickly discovered that I needed to reduce my shutter speed and settled at about 1/8 sec at ISO 400...

Those look great, Turk. I especially like the rich colors of the 3rd shot

    Portland Fireworks, where to shoot?

I had originally set up on the Hawthorne Bridge (not knowing the bridge would be closed to pedestrians during the fireworks show). After being run off I found a place on the east bank that worked out great. I'll post a few more when I have a chance to process them.

    Portland Fireworks, where to shoot?

I think the best place to shoot would be from the east bank looking toward the city. The fireworks show usually draws large crowds on both sides of the river (especially if the weather is dry), so I doubt safety will be an issue. I've been considering staying in Portland on Friday evening to...

Big and Little Boats on the Columbia

A couple of photos of pleasure craft and commercial vessels on the Columbia River. These were shot from the beach in Columbia City, Oregon. The race is on... The cargo vessel won. A bit too close for comfort. The ship and fishing boat were surprisingly close, and the long focal length...
