    Just Some Grass...

Good perspective and light, even if its just some grass :)

    Playing with off camera flash

There is enough hair light in the second photo that Im no sure if it works. Maybe go for more separation by putting this type of light source behind and diaganal to the subject. Or snoot the hair light? Nina has a good example here...

    Sunset locations inland

Thanks for the input. I will have to check out Rocky Butte and some other high spots in Portland--I think there is a radio tower in the NW region also. Topography map here I come. Sassy, the river is a good idea... might have to do a sunset over downtown too.

I like the lighting. This turned out really well!

    Sunset locations inland

Ive been looking for a good semi-local place to shoot sunsets. Im in NW Oregon about 1/2 hour north of Portland/Beaverton. There are few places where I have gone to get sunset photos but the sun is always blocked by mountains or trees. I tried to find the highest peak around here but I still run...

    Little Crater Lake

That reflection is one of the best I've seen. You show the water depth and the smooth clear surface very well. It looks like spring water or clean mtn water. Very nice.

    Middle Fork Salmon River

Great variety of animals. Nice photos!!

    Ellensburg Community Days

In your scenario and camera settings, you add exposure (+) you will expose the details of the shadows better and subtract exposure (-) you will expose the bright areas better. This gets tricky in some situations but its a start. Maybe brush up on your camera's features a bit more. Read the...

    Morning on Hyatt...cc's

I like the light blues over the water. Looks very "morning on the lake". Is that mist?

Oh and +1 may help as a starting point but each scene is different. I like to use the cameras brain sometimes so I'll set spot metering and aperture priority and point the focus dot on the shadows...this works well when you are directly behind the players and they are in shade.

No such thing as a stupid question. On my nikons you can flip the direction of the meter or at least the way the dial adds or subtracts exposure---but if you want to add light, add exposure with + if you want to subtract go to minus.

Bridge of the Gods Kiteboarding Festival

Much less dramatic. :) No tripod, standing on shore, 2 bodies, 70-200mm & 17-55mm. Its right off the river so everyone has a front seat. A very interesting event to watch.

That shot was with my 300f4, a D200, f10 and 1/400. BTW those are not my typical settings--I usually go for much lower DOF. For backlit shots, like Tony said, you can just meter for the shadows a little more. There are many ways to do that. I may just set the camera to center-weighted...

Bridge of the Gods Kiteboarding Festival

Thanks Christena! Yes it does look like a lot of fun. Some of these guys are really good at it which makes it easier to shoot. These were taken mid afternoon. The light was a little harsh but the hardest part about this is shooting through the haze above the river--the longer the distance...

Bridge of the Gods Kiteboarding Festival

Started taking some photos of kiteboarding this year and found out about a festival going on this week. It looked like enough fun that I figured I'd venture into WA. :D

Hey Producekid good to see more of your work again. First off, good job getting the action. My suggestion would be to position yourself so that the light is reflecting off of the players (towards you) so you can get the most detail and fastest shutter speeds...you will also have a consistant...

Trail #715 - Pup Creek Falls
