They do, under 40* they sometimes go into a stupor and even hang upside down

We have at least 10 around the resort. They leave for a few weeks then come back. We take our feeders down for about a month or so. We also pump up the mix to 5 cups of sugar per gallon our anti freeze winter mix

I like winter the hummingbirds are a tad slower and more docile. I was able to approach with in about 15 ft.
Used flash hence the bright blue water drop on the birds head

I like these and those are some Funky boots, flash back to the early 80's and Disco! I feel 4 and 8 are the best

Eagles are tough to get close too. They are wary of humans. I dont think Ive ever been that close! There could be 100 different reasons why your picture did not come out as you hoped.

Yes the good and bad thing about DSLR's is that they have interchangeable lenses. So if you purchase a canon sigma makes lenses to fit that Canon, same with Nikon , Sony and Pentax. All build quality products and have a wide variety of lenses available for them

Sorry Ive been out of pocket for a week or so. The camera is an inexpensive Sony A100 and the lens is the Sigma, 50-500mm F4 lens. I bought it used from BH photo for around 600.00 for the lens the camera body can be bought from Sony for 399.00 with warranty
