    Nice series! Greenies are one of the birds I miss most about living up there. I moved south to Chehalis about 18 months ago, and haven't seen one since I got here... apparently they're pretty scarce around here.. :(

    I can imagine. That blind isn't very big. On the bright side, at least the swallows give you something to shoot at there that's close enough for a decent photo! Only problem is the light... ;)

    Thanks, Bill! Plus the fact that I hadn't shot fireworks at all since probably 2008 or so... It's a bit easier here because of the lack of background lights; I just shot in Bulb mode, and held the shutter open for as long as the explosions were occurring. It was so dark, at ISO 100 and f/11-16...

    Some fireworks from the local display on the 4th. Nothing like the extravaganzas y'all get up in Seattle, but pretty nonetheless, and no smoke to cloud up the images!

    Found this little gal busily working on some new digs yesterday... hope she continues in that spot, and raises chicks there - with this view, I'll get some killer shots of her feeding the babies!

    Possibly the prettiest photo I've gotten to date of a female Bullock's oriole... she was foraging in some Scotch broom, and the yellows and spring greens surrounding her, and the light, were all just right... :)

    Rufous hummingbird fledgling

    I knew the baby rufous hummers at Nisqually would fledge over the weekend, so I went back yesterday to see, and sure enough, they'd left the nest. Found one on a nearby branch, though, and waited for mom to come back and feed it...

    Ah, spring! This little fellow surely seemed to be celebrating the return of warmer weather! Alas, being stone deaf to frequencies above 6 KHz, I couldn't hear his song, but he certainly seemed to be putting his heart into it!

    This little mama merganser brought her 11 ducklings out to meet the world at Nisqually NWR the other day... I'd gotten photos of common merganser chicks, but these were the first hoodie ducklings I'd seen. What a treat!

    Went out to Bottle Beach near Westport yesterday to see if I could get some decent shots of shorebirds for a change. The tide was way out, so I walked out onto the tide flats and set up my tripod and just waited. As the tide came in, so did the birds, and before long I had them all around me...
