    American pipit

Went out to Oyhut at Ocean Shores searching for a ruff that had been seen there... no luck with the ruff, but did see lots of American pipits. This one cooperated long enough for a couple of shots...

    Sea otter

Went up to Cape Flattery a week or so ago looking for a rare bird... didn't find it, but did get some shots of a sea otter from the end of the cape. First shots I've gotten of one in the wild...

    Baird's sandpiper - uncommon visitor

I saw that, Bill.. well done seeing them from that far away! Apparently they're being seen more than usual this year... I was at Ocean Shores this afternoon, and got shots of a couple more!

    Baird's sandpiper - uncommon visitor

From a visit to Nisqually a few days ago... found this little guy in a mixed flock of least and Western sandpipers feeding on the mudflats about halfway out along the boardwalk...

    Wildlife of Edmonds, WA. 2018

Look like Baird's.... wings extend beyond tail, clearly defined "hood"... here's a closer look at one...

    Such a little ham!

This little golden-mantled ground squirrel posed so nicely for me, I had no choice but to take a photo... near the Loowit viewpoint at Mt St Helens last weekend...

    Black-headed grosbeak having a "smoothie"...

This female black-headed grosbeak was feeding on berries in a tree, and it was interesting to watch. She'd pick a berry, hold it in her beak, and squeeze the juice out... I could see her throat moving as she swallowed. Then she'd drop the squeezed husk and pluck another berry, and do the same...

First time observation of Orioles in the backyard

Hooded orioles are very uncommon in the PNW... A friend who lives in Renton had one in her yard last year, and it was only the 11th verified sighting in Washington state. They normally stay well south, in Arizona, SoCal, Nevada and New Mexico... Edit: Just realized you're actually in...

Found this male horned lark with two juveniles at a lookout near Mt St Helens on Saturday evening... my first sighting of one of these birds, so it was kind of exciting... ;)

    Iron Creek Falls

This little gem is tucked away just off FR25 south of Randle... I went earlier this year, in May, and it was a bit too "exuberant" for good photos, IMHO, so I went back on Saturday to get it at lower flow... so much more photogenic this time!!

    Feeding time

    So true, Bill, so true!!
