    Not the best image of the kids. They do not look like they can fly just yet. Looks like fluffy down to me. I couldn't help but notice ....My! What big feet you have! Also, I think the frog was a little nervous. LOL

    It looks like this was indeed a lucky catch! The little pond where I found the family is usually occupied by mallard ducks. I was amazed that there were young ones on the pond. Mom stayed very close to them and they stayed close to the water lilies. I thought it was kind of late in the year...

    This was taken at 552 mm (with a 1.6 crop factor body), F11, 1/1250 SS, ISO 1000 in manual mode. Approximate distance was 70-80 feet away. This was my first Pied-billed Grebe and I had to bring out 3 bird books to make sure I had identified it correctly.

    Bill, I have servo mode and continuous shutter. Unfortunately the best the camera and card can do is 6 shots and then it pauses to catch up. By then the bird is long gone. I will try that mode this weekend to see what happens. Thank you for the tip!

    Thank you for the words of encouragement Bill. I'm using a Canon T4i and a Tamron 150-600 mm lens. Probably not the best camera to use but it is what I've got to work with.
