    The Kinglet Challenge

Good catches. The kinglets are tough, always hopping around. I like how the one has his crown flared out.

    Snow Day at the Refuge

I think perhaps the Racoons are my favorite.

    Snow Day at the Refuge

I saw plenty of coots. One just like this one was later snatched up by an eagle just out of reach of my lens. Of course there were herons. Who can go to the refuge without catching one of those. And I always love a glimpse of some the other residents. I was hoping for otters, but...

    Snow Day at the Refuge

I had to drive to Longview today so I thought I'd check out the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. It was closed all weekend and they freshly plowed it either yesterday or today. It was one of those special days when nobody was there. The ponds, wetlands and canals were pretty much frozen so...

    Hummingbirds, anyone?

This young lady has been working hard all day between chasing interlopers away, eating and keeping vigil. Ever try to catch snowflakes with your tongue? :) Sometimes the flakes are almost as big as the bird. Rest well little friend.

Twice in two days I've gotten comments referencing me. I guess I'm on people's mind. I feel loved. LOL

    eagle at Juanita

I should have clarified that. I'm talking about Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. The waterfowl swim very close to the blind when the wetlands are full of water. It's a small rustic blind but quite nice, available only by reservation. It's the closest one for me if I want to be there for...

    eagle at Juanita

They really should check with photographers about that. :D. My closest wildlife refuge has a photographer's blind that you can reserve. Only problem it is positioned such that in the winter months during sunrise and sunset it has horrible backlighting since it has a southern exposure.
