    It looks like your telephoto lens + distance gives you better photo angles than standing directly under the nest. It is nice to have such a good subject to photograph without having to leave home during this Covid-19 lock down.

    Some of the birds you see may be migrants. It is always hit or miss whether they will stop at your feeder from one year to the next. You need to pull the plug on that 500L telephoto you were telling me about and set it up to photograph birds at the feeder.

    The Pt. Edwards eagles usually raise 1-2 eaglets every year, although they have occasionally skipped a year. As you can see from my photos taken earlier this week, this year they started much later than the Smith Island pair.

    In a nice break from backyard birding, Monday afternoon (5-18-2020) my wife drove my son and me up to Pt. Edwards to check on the eagles' nest. We saw a olive-sided flycatcher perched in a tree near the nest.

    Are Tripods Obsolete?

    My Canon 5DIII and 7DII have a built-in HDR mode which snaps three photos in succession. While I can shoot handheld with HDR in a pinch, I get more usable photos (no "ghosting") if I shoot from a tripod with a cable shutter release.

    All three of my cameras allow me to use a 1.4x teleconverter with the 100-400L II telephoto zoom (albeit at f/8) and still have autofocus. However, I don't use this setup as the TC really slows down the autofocus.
