    Oregon Coast...

"Golden Hour" Another element that makes mid-day less than ideal is the color of the sun's light. The atmosphere acts like a prism, bending different wavelengths of the sun's light different amounts. When the sun is low in the sky, it passes through the atmosphere at an angle that causes most...

JULY 4th at the Lake....cc's okay!!

Nice ones! I especially like that first shot with the mist on the water. I wonder what it would look like if you darkened it by a half stop or maybe even a full stop. Would it give it a moodier feeling? Or would the mist just disappear?

    SP4449 Steam Excursion to Wishram

Thanks. Appreciate the comments. I think I agree about #3. But here is what I was going for in #1 - only a few moments before the train arived it was so calm there was a great reflection of Mt Hood. Alas, the wind picked up just enough to ruin the reflection.

    Steptoe Butte in the Palouse

Even if it wasn't "ideal conditions", #2 and #3 are really nice. That spot is going to have to be added to my list of must-see places.

    a nameless mountain stream

Thanks Rocky, I suspected as much. My prefered shots are usually in the range of 1/15 down to 1/4 sec. For me, that gives enough motion blur without losing all of the freeze-motion effect. And it still gives the ability to see under the surface on the calm parts. Of course, that's just...

    a nameless mountain stream

Both are good, but... When it comes to flowing water, I'm usually in the minority. :) I prefer a bit of stop-motion over the smooth creamy flow that it seems most people like. That's the case here, too - I like the first one best. What were the shutter speeds on these two? Thanks, -Mike
