    Tulips and snow geese

That was a good thought Bill, but I have to agree with Rocky's thinking on this one. The geese were too far and the tulip field too close for it to work with a 400mm lens on a crop body.

    a colorful shoveler

Wonderful colors on the northern shoveler, especially the blue. Great job!

    Tulips and snow geese

Thanks, Joe. I took another look, and I think you're right, those do look more like trumpeter swans. There was another field nearby where I saw snow geese, so I must have assumed these belonged with them without looking too closely. I'll post a photo of the geese after my lightroom backup is...

    Tulips and snow geese

Today there were almost more people photographing these swans than there were at the tulip festival! By next week the tulips should be in full bloom. What a great day in the Skagit valley!

Nice job catching one out in the open, especially handheld at 1/125th!

    Wildlife of Edmonds, WA. 2015

Thanks for sharing, Bill. It seems like that sparrow isn't intimidated by the hummingbird at all!

Very nice. Glad to hear that some of our local heronries are doing well.

    Edmonds Eagles 2014/15

Great shots, Bill! Could some of these juvies be from last years' nest in Edmonds? Or do they leave the area after they leave the nest?

    Common goldeneye courtship

Thanks, Rocky! This was on the north end of the lake, near Log Boom park. I'll have to keep an eye out for the Kirkland goldeneyes!

    Owl Season 2015

I saw my first barred owl at 3:30 this morning, and heard some saw-whets as well. I can't remember - what are the image size guidelines? 1200px or 1000px?

    Owl Season 2015

Nice photos, Max. Glad you found them!

    Owl Season 2015

It is. I heard the entire area is a floodplain, and you can see debris from previous floods on the trees. Its mostly muddy though.

    Owl Season 2015

The pygmy owl was in Carnation. If you go, remember to bring boots :)

    Owl Season 2015

Thanks Chad. I'd say it was about 20-30 ft away in this photo, later in the afternoon he landed no more than 10 ft directly above me in a tree. Others heard him calling, but I didn't hear anything.

    Owl Season 2015

Great job with those long-eared owls, Rocky. Here's a northern pygmy-owl I found today, along with 20 other photographers :)

    Owl Season 2015

Rocky, those are some incredible photos of the long-eared owl in some great light. A nice catch for both you and the owl!
