    It's actually closer to 3.5 miles one way. About 2000 feet of elevation gain. I did it last year, larches are spectacular in fall up there. It's not a bad day hike.

    I've seen herds of them at Berkely Park on Rainier, Spray park too. So up close and personal at Ingalls Lake I could have used my wide angle.

    There wasn't an additional option: I have zero interest in shooting video even if my camera is capable. I used to have a dedicated video camera, barely used it.

    I don't know about that road, the first part of it past the trees looks like an avalanche waiting to happen. When I do it, my plan would be like you mentioned.

    I would be looking for fairly fresh snow with lots on the trees. Not something I would typically expect in Spring.

    I've been meaning to do that hike one of these days, I havent seen any good shots with snow cover from there. Might be one way to get a really original shot, at least, thats my plan.

    Thanks. Bad weather for sight seeing is good weather for photography. Clothing is a key to making the trip comfortable, though I did get wet walking in the water.

    Conditions in the mountains create an environment where you can shoot almost all day without worrying about harsh light and fall colors are peaking, it really doesn't get any better. For once, the forecast was correct and I got some clouds :)
