not absolutely sure what this little fella is - i think it's a western tanager in non-breeding plumage, but i wouldn't swear to it... 7D, 100-400 @ 400mm, 1/640 @ f/5.6. this is a pretty heavy crop, he was a good 20 yards away, in heavy branches...

Great shot. Those warbler type birds are very hard to photograph as they are small, active, and seldom come out to the edge of the leaf canopy.

I always look forward to photographing the colorful birds of summer after a winter of drab black, brown, and gray birds. I have seen several warblers, but no western tanagers yet this year.
