Things have been slow at the Edmonds Marsh lately, even Bill Anderson says so. So yesterday (Wednesday Aug. 13) I retreated to my yard in Woodway in the hopes of getting a few shots. Luckily at least there were a few common birds there, and surprisingly, at least to me, many of them were very young-appearing juveniles.

In the top of one of our pines, a female house finch was being hassled by its young offspsring

Near our feeders, a juvie Spotted Towhee showed up and did a few poses for me

It seemed very curious about me and my setup :)

Then about 4 juvie Steller's Jays dropped in. This particular one was a real showoff. It started by trying to figure out how to get into our suet feeder

The same juvie proceeded to pose for one more on the suet box

and then flew to the Japanese Maple.

All shots were taken with the Canon 7D, 500mm f4L, and 1.4x tele-extender
