Mountain Goats in Western WA?

I did manage to see a mountain goat in Mount Rainier National Park this summer. "See", as in barely visible. As in standing there going "Is that a goat?" "I think it's a goat..." "Did it just move?" It did, and it was indeed a mountain goat. Check out this amazing photo!



That's why I said "See" rather than photograph, LOL! If you can't tell if it's a goat or a big white dog, it's not really a good photo...

I love it when others show their not so stellar photos. Makes me feel better about the 98.95% of photos I don't share. But in this case, I do the same as you can tell by the eagle photos in another thread.

Apparently I was looking in the wrong place! I should have been looking in Western Oregon. I found this slightly scruffy fellow striking a nice pose in the Oregon Cascades.



He was easy to get to as well. The hike to his location was short and simple. In fact, the only challenge was, uh, well, paying the admission fee to get inside the Oregon Zoo. But other than that, piece of cake!

So I guess I'm still looking for a nice WILD mountain goat shot...

The easiest place I know in summer to reliably find goats is Headlight Basin which is about a 6 mile r/t hike. I posted photos of it in 2011. I know of a lot of places that are drives and short walks where you may see goats but to be sure to find them you need to hike where they live.
