While going through my Short Eared Owl shots, I found these two that I'd overlooked. The birds are smaller than I'd have liked, so I didn't notice them on my first pass.
However, it's a pretty unusual shot, so I thought I'd share it. For a moment, this Short Eared Owl flew in formation with a Hawk. They started to land, maybe chasing the same thing, but both changed their mind and flew off.

Once up at the West 90 I photographed a harrier and a shortie engaged in aerial combat over a mouse one of them had caught. I got a shot of the two birds and the mouse in freefall, all in focus. Once the mouse hit the ground, it was descended on by several other birds including a raven.
Great job catching that action! I really like behavioral shots with multiple species.

nice work, Bob! i know the shorties and harriers compete for the same hunting grounds and prey.

One more shot. A bit blurrier than i'd like, but the action makes it worth a look.
Apparently a bit of a dispute over something to eat.

hard to say... doesn't look like either of them have anything in their talons, but skirmishes over hunting territory are pretty common. it's always fun to capture the action, though... well done!
