Hi,

Ran into a couple of PNW members last night and was reminded that people won't know who you are unless you stop lurking and start posting, so, here is an interesting shot.

Interesting because if you live in the Medford area you have to make a picture of this bridge in Gold Hill. It is simply required to be a resident I believe.

The other interesting thing about this shot is that on my Facebook page it seems people like the shot.

So for your viewing enjoyment and comment, here is my version of the "Gold Hill Railroad Bridge."

Welcome

Very nice shot - could only be made better by including an old cab-forward steam engine pulling a long train. ;)

Hi Jim, nice meeting you last night...soooooooo AH HA!!! this is the shot...nice perspective :) Post the Eagle shot that advanced at the club last night... ;)

Falling under the category of, if you can't beat them, join them. An HDR version of the bridge. Sorry about the Photomatix watermark, still trying it out. I kind of like it.

Christena thank you for asking. Here is one of the first images I have ever entered in competition. The S.O.P.A. judges were kind enough to give the Bald Eagle 5th place, so it's headed up the ladder.

I really like what the HDR did to the bridge, very cool and it brings out lots of detail.

I don't like what it did to the sky quite so much. The "glow" along the railing looks a bit odd. You might consider creating a layer mask and copying the original sky back in, or doing a blend of both the original and new version.

The eagle shot is great, very nice! They're much harder to get detail in than you'd think, the head is so very white and the body feathers are pretty dark. If you expose the body correctly, the head often washes out.

Thanks

Thanks everyone.

It will take me some time to get used to the HDR process. I think it will become a valuable part of my kit. The bridge is an experiment. The easy way of fixing the sky is to take the Lightroom ND mask and under expose the sky.

The bird; taking birds, which I love to do, takes patience and luck as much as the right equipment. This one came out pretty good, I like the glare from this bird. The onlything that didn't work is no smile when I said, "say cheese."

Thanks everyone.

The eagle looks like he put his coat on backwards that morning. :D Nice capture.

Backwards Eagle

The one posted earlier has his coat on right, The one with the blue sky is the same bird, a touch wider. A couple of weeks later the one with the washed out sky must have put his coat on backwards.

Thanks for all the notes, I need to get back there soon. It's a great place for Eagles and Trumpeter Swans this time of year.

The sunlight hitting the grass in the foreground really makes this composition sing, Jim. Well done. I like it a lot :)
