Wanted to try this for a long time and last weekend i had a chance to do it. I could have done couple things different. But still it was a good experiment...

F22 or higher? Trying to figure out how to keep blowout from bottom light sources
 
^i shoot about 70 images with 30 second exposures. when you merge the layers together at photoshop you delete the light parts at the bottom to avoid the over exposure.

Cool! Great idea, and it should work just fine. The short gap in the trails between exposures should be so small as to be invisible for all practical purposes.
 
YES!! That explains it! Thanks for unlocking the mystery for me. I had been trying since I lived in the desert and failing miserably. I appreciate it.
