    Went out this afternoon hoping for some yellow warblers or a Wilson's, but neither one deigned to appear... however, I got something even better! This lovely male western tanager gave me good looks for about 20 minutes at it flitted between branches and sallied for bugs...

They tend to stay down in the bushes, where it's super shady and dark, and when they do come out in the open, they flit like a little blur to another patch of shrubbery and disappear again.     Thanks, Terry! These were the first good shots I've gotten of them... would have been better with softer light, or even light overcast, since the cranes tend to overexpose quite easily, but I'm certainly not complaining about these! ;)

    Wow! That'd be a sight to see! There were maybe 400 or so down near Vancouver. But being able to get close to them really made my day!

    Went down south to the Vancouver area this afternoon to look for sandhill cranes, and was not disappointed. In fact, I had my very own "Sandhill Crane Festival"! The Othello celebration got nuthin' on this spot! These were shot from the side of a road; the birds were about 50-60 yards away...

    Got this little guy at Nisqually this afternoon... he flew in and landed about 6 feet up and 15 feet away and started working his way up while I frantically reset my ISO (this was in shade, so ISO set at 2000) and started snapping away...

    I just love this pose... the little male ruby-crowned kinglet looked straight at me, I could almost hear him thinking "Oh crap! He sees me!", and immediately engaged his warp drive...

    Got this little guy just after it took off... a bit OOF, since it was coming at m e faster than the AI Servo could keep up with, but I rather like that shot anyway... :)
