    Stanwood Owls

    Great photos, Max! That's one of the best photos I've seen of the Stanwood long-eared owl. I always thought the short-eared owls were more active in the evening, but it sounds like they're just as active in the morning? Were the short-eared owls flying over the field nearest the parking lot?

    Thanks for comments everyone! Rocky - I was on the middle platform. They seem to be dividing their time between the middle platform and the the boardwalk that used to be a road on the right side.

    Hooded Merganser

    This hooded merganser swam within 15 feet of the platform at Juanita Bay park yesterday afternoon, and presented some wonderful photo opportunities. They're always a treat to see!

    Today the Edmonds snowy owl was hidden among the rocks on the breakwater. He was visible from only a small portion of the fuel dock.

    Shorebird Identification - Semipalmated Sandpiper?

    I had a wonderful morning birding on Jetty Island today. I am new to shorebirds, and looking through my bird guide I think this is a semipalmated sandpiper, but would like confirmation. Thanks!

    Thanks so much Chad! I think the eagle took off with the fish, I have some photos of it landing on a platform right after this, and I thought I saw it holding something, but will check the photos later tomorrow. The heron returned to its fishing spot to get another fish.

    Nisqually Owls

    I think those might be snakes on the tree limb (they look too big to be worms), it looks like there's bird feathers as well. I also hadn't seen anything on Tweeters this year - I just happened to be going through my archive and noticed that my owlet photos from last year were around this time...
