    Planet

Looking at the different charts and stuff it sounds like it could be Jupiter. Take a look here... http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/visible-planets-tonight-mars-jupiter-venus-saturn-mercury

Nooo !!! It's too soon for this.

I've been enjoying this nice Indian summer weather we've been having. It's just too soon to start thinking about snow, but there it was on the mountain this morning. A fresh dusting of snow covering what had been bare rocks only 4 days ago. It's not a lot of snow, but dang it, it's coming...

    Some recent sports shots.

I've finally gotten my schedule calmed down to where I can get out to cover the sports I need to. here's some from the last week or so. Good start to the backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay.. Good mechanics to the breast stroke... Getting the pass off... he makes the call...

    Mobile phone shots.

While in Alaska fishing last month this whale breached, since it was pouring down rain all day I left the camera back in the condo and shot this with my Iphone. The original shot... Quite a bit of cropping... You gotta use what you have with you, just have something to use.

49 International KB11 Logging truck at the County Fair

I like that you closed the aperture down far enough to get stars in the specular highlights. That's something I like to see as a way to deal with those highlights in the sun for auto shows.

    Morning on Hyatt...cc's

Nice spot with some good pastels in the shot. gotta think when those bushes start to get some fall colors that would really make for a colorful scene. Shoulda taken your fishing pole out with you though, looks like a nice trout spot.

    Ellensburg Community Days

Looks like pelnty going on over in E'burg. Similar to what J said above, you need to position yourself to use the light or go ahead and override the camera settings to expose what is important in a composition. With sports, it's pretty important to get the faces in the shots. All these...

Purchasing a new Canon Lens??? Help???

I too shoot for a newspaper, sports, wildlife, portraits and events. I have the 17-35 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 IS, 100-400 4.5-5.6 , and the 400 2.8 IS. The work horse of the bunch is the 70-200. It lives pretty much permanently on one body and the other lenses bounce back and forth on the...

How many shots of a Sunset do you shoot??

When the skies look like that I shoot until I run out of light. Then I might only pick three or four out of the bunch.

Birds in Flight suggestions: Seattle area

Eagles are starting to show up along the upper Carbon River near the fish hatchery in Orting. Usually where ever they are on the river there are also sea gulls around to practice on. Anywhere down on the waterfront in Seattle will get you some flying seagulls to practice on, hang out by...

There's a thundering sound coming at me.

LOL, I figured everyone would think thunder boats. Thanks Bob, it is a fun event to shoot for a day, but dang those ponies really make you nervous when you are looking through the lens and the ones you aren't watching running up beside you. all you hear is the thump thump thump and then look...

There's a thundering sound coming at me.

And it makes me very nervous when 2500 pound critters are running so close. Shot the Leo's Birthday Bash polo matches at the Tacoma Polo Club today. I love watching horses run. Hit this one under the orses belly and wrapped that stick right around the horse...

Location suggestions for photographing Blue Angels?

Saw this too late but maybe for next year. One of the best spots in near the pits or the race sponsors VIP area/tent. They come in right over your head as that is where they line up center from. That first pass you don't even hear them coming, then zoom there they are. We did it there in...

    Portland/ Seaside/ Cannon Beach

Hey there, welcome to the group. Thanks for taking the plunge and putting up some photos. I'll take a stab at giving you my ideas on some of these. Take them for whatever you can get out of it. If I were at home I would have tried to show some crops of what I was trying to convey, can't do any...

    Falls around mt rainier

With all the late snowpack this is definitely a good year for getting waterfalls. Tough someitmes to capture the detail in the highlihgts though unless it's before/after daylight. Later on it should be a short colorful burst of flowers up on the mountain, but don't think they will last long.

    Hiking the Grassy Knoll Trail.

Great series, you really do need to go there with another photographer so you can stay late to catch some good light (just bring a flashlight to find your way back or a sleeping bag to spend the night for some morning light).

    I'm seeing double with spots.

Yikes, the pharmacist is right when they say don't mix meds with alcahol. Some flexeril along with a rum and Coke has me seeing double with spots. The new borns out in grass with mom. This is the second set of twins we have had near the house this year, the first set were born on...

    Dog Agility, Salem Oregon

Way to go. What fun action dog shots. LIke you said, don't shave 'em. Nothing worse than a doggy with a sun burn. My sister has a couple of Great Pirenese over in Coleville where the temps get pretty high during the summer. They just laze around in the shade until early morning or late...
