    I watched this RBNU take a warm bath yesterday and then retire to this branch for a 30-minute nap! No cropping here....I just walked right up to him. You can see the third eyelid closed for deep sleeping. :)

    Green Heron

    I have one location on Bellingham's Southside wired for a pair of Green Herons and this morning one half of the reliable duo flew right to me, as I sat in the dry warmth of my truck!

    Strange moon shot

    This is from a couple of nights ago north of Larrabee State Park. The entire sequence of shots defies description but this one is the most pronounced. Didn't notice until I downloaded yesterday. Alien activity, perhaps....? :D Looking south, across Samish Bay

    Spent some close-up time watching this handsome fellow this morning, north of Larrabee SP. If your nails are as long as his talons I wouldn't try this at home.

    Banded Caspian Terns

    Today was a great day for kayaking and anything else you might have thought of doing, but it was special to find a number of re-sightings of banded CATEs at Semiahmoo. The best was this one, which was banded in Bellingham as a 4-5 week old chick in 2010. I took part in this operation...

    New Osprey nest

    Don't know if this one is going to last since all the material seems to be falling into the maze of wires below. Also don't know how the owner of this cell tower is going to feel about this encroachment. *The tower is right behind my shop.

    Western Scrub Jays

    The nesting pair that I discovered/revealed four years ago is at it again and could well be the northwesternmost nesting pair of scrub jays in the US of A. I'm confident that the sightings in southern BC are offspring from this pair. Just a hunch, but a confident hunch. :cool:

    Still a few lingering loons up at Semiahmoo, including this pair. They appeared to be together so I waited a while for them to line up just right for this pic. The morning sun was behind them but I like the way it worked out.

    Great Blue snags a lamprey

    Yes, this was in the intertidal zone at the mouth of Whatcom Creek and the heron did in fact swallow the lamprey whole. Always impressed by the things they can wolf down....and get right back to it. ;)
