Yesterday, as I drove up Pine Street into Woodway there was a Killdeer family; the male and female and about 4 or 5 hatchlings. I stopped for them since they were scattered all over the road and the parents were trying to round up the babies - it was pandemonium. I managed to get an on-coming car stopped and we waited until the family was more or less all clear - by that time we had a couple more cars stopped. I pulled off the road at the top of the hill to get some shots - I had my 5Diii and 400mm f5.6L and 1.4x extender. With the limited time and depth of field I wasn't able to get much in the way of decent shots, but who cares....it was a touching scene to watch. I have a feeling that the hatchlings were truly just hatched.

As I stood there, worried about more cars, the male rounded up the babies and headed off the road, the female came directly toward me - I think to lure me away from the chicks.
