after i shot the grebe at the marina, i headed for Pine Ridge to see if i could find the barred owl. no luck. went to Yost Park to see if i could find one there, no luck there either. but i did get a couple of other shots there - a brown creeper and my first decent shot of a pileated woodpecker! the latter isn't great - he was at some distance and the light was less than ideal - a bit too bright, and it blew the whites on his head - but it's the first shot i've gotten of one of these little stinkers, so i'm gonna take it!

That is a great shot of the creeper. They are very difficult to photograph when they are flattened out against bare bark.

thanks, Bill! they also seem to really favor the shady side of the tree, the little stinkers! thank goodness for spot metering!
