the heron caught itself a catfish, which it then spent about 5 minutes trying to properly position. it had taken the fish to a small, muddy "island" in the middle of the lagoon, and started putting the fish down and then picking it up again, in an attempt to get just the right grip to swallow it head-first. the fish, however, was having none of it, and when the heron made the mistake of putting it down in a bit of water too close to the edge of the island, the fish made good its escape. the heron, needless to say, was rather miffed, and by the time i left half an hour later, it was still standing at the edge of the island sulking... i particularly liked the light on the heron in the second one... 7D, 400mm, f/7.1, auto shutter...
