paid a visit to Pine Ridge to see if the pileated woodpeckers had occupied the nesting hole they'd made... so far, no sign that they have. i wonder if they abandoned it before even moving in? do they do that? anyway, got a shot or two there, then headed down to the marsh for a look-see. not much there, but a pleasant evening watching the sunlight turn golden. Bill showed up, and we chatted for a while before the light went away. here are a few shots from the evening...

Canada geese flying in...

a killdeer out on the mudflats... these little guys were about the only shore birds to be seen.

the marsh wren(s) provided the most entertainment of the afternoon. this little fellow seemed to be having a grand time announcing his eligibility to the world...

then, to show what a good provider he'd be, he went and gathered a facefull of cattail fluff for a nest...

It was good seeing you last night. That shot of the marsh wren with cattail fuzz in its mouth is the one I am always trying to get at the marsh.
