yes, baby coot, singular... only saw the one little one today. it would appear some unfortunate fate has befallen the other one between Jerome's visit on Monday and this afternoon. light was lousy today, but i was still able to get these shots of mother and child...

Now I know what to look for the next time I see coots nesting.
Their kind of like baby moose. Only a mother could love them. LOL
With that bright red head color, it would be hard for a predator to miss them.

There must be a reason for that bright red head. Maybe from the air they look like a flower or other plant to a flying predator like a hawk or eagle.
