i got some photos of the bittern with one of the half-dozen little minnows it caught while working its way along the water's edge... none were much larger than this one, but the bittern caught one every 10 minutes or so. it was probably about 40 feet away for these shots; i've cropped a bit just to enlarge details, but not much. the third one is cropped a bit closer, just to show the fish in mid-air in the bird's beak more clearly. the last image is uncropped, full-frame, just for reference.
