Black-capped chickadees are quite photogenic. I admit to taking them and their cousins, the chestnut-backed chickadees, for granted as they are both regular visitors to my backyard bird feeders.
I once came across a fledgling black-capped chickadee on the grass at Scriber Lake in nearby Lynnwood. I know you are not supposed to pick up baby birds, but it was so cute that I could not resist. One of its parents was nearby. I placed the fledgling off the ground on the leaf of a shrub where it could continue exploring the world outside its burrow.
