Nice shot. Very good use of that low winter sunlight. I just missed a close up shot of one at the Edmonds marina two days ago. We get them regularly inside the marina in the winter, but they are usually too far away for a good shot.

With the tide gate shut and little rain, the marsh is mostly mudflats with little/no avian action. I would wait to visit until after a heavy rain or when the tide gate is opened, whenever that is.
I need to go up your way to check out Spencer Island and Portage Creek county park.
