Went up to Eide Road this afternoon just for something different. Not much early, but toward sundown the activity level picked up a good bit... Here are a couple from the afternoon.
American kestrel... This is probably as good a shot as I've managed of one of these. I can never seem to get close enough for a good, clean image. This little guy was a good 75 yards away (and kestrels are NOT big birds!), and I snapped this one before I tried to approach, just so I'd have some kind of shot. Sure enough, as I started moving toward him, the little stinker took off!
A great egret was hanging around on the channel side of the levee...
I also saw harriers, a hawk I'm still trying to ID, pheasant, yellow-rumps, bushtits, and some other tweety-birds. Most were either too far away or too hidden in the thickets for good photos, however...
