Saw this little guy fly over a pond in Kent yesterday and managed a couple of shots, thinking it was a green heron. Didn't see till I got home and got it on the "big screen" that it was an American bittern, a much more reclusive and hard-to-find bird. I've gotten lots of shots of a bittern foraging, etc., but never gotten a decent one in flight, so this was quite a treat!

Good catch. My first guess would have been a green heron as well.
