got this little female Anna's at Scriber Creek Park the other day. it seems to have some weird coloring... the yellow-green on its side and the orange hue on the side of its head don't look quite like the other female Anna's that i've seen... a breeding season thing, perhaps? i'd been shooting birds on the ground immediately before this, in the shade, so had the shutter slowed down a bit to get decent exposures, and this little gal appeared so fast i didn't have a chance to change it, so the wings are badly blurred...

not sure... i don't know hummingbirds that well. the description of the female rufous is "green above, with rufous flanks and rufous at the base of the tail, visible when spread. Their throats have a reddish central spot which is not always visible." i'm not seeing rufous on this one, not like the photos i've looked up. i suspect it's an Anna's, but a trick of the light is making the sides look more colorful than they normally are...
