this was the "runner-up" yesterday... just got through processing it. i'm not sure i like the composition quite as well... feels a bit cramped, because i was trying to isolate just the single bloom in the frame and there were others around it. aside from being a bit tight, though, i think it's not bad... your thoughts?

My only thought is... "Wish my photography was good enough that this photo would rate as 'runner up' rather than 'nailed it!'..."

Seriously, nice shot! It does look just a touch dark on my monitor, but that could just be varying brightness.

thanks, Bob... i'm just not certain i like the composition as well, and i wish i'd had a skosh more room on the sides. but i'll certainly take this one!

there's a house about half a mile from my place that has a bazillion of these gorgeous lilies blooming all along the street edges of the yard... i'd noticed 'em the other day, and made a note to get back there for some pics... 7D, 100-400 @ 285mm, 1/3200 @ f/5.6.

For me, the first shot would definitely be preferred for another reason. The flower itself is brighter compared to the background and seems to have a glow that this second shot doesn't have. Maybe it's just an optical illusion. If that is something you can fix in post, then this one would, IMHO, be a closer second. Just my $.02 which isn't worth very much these days.
