This seems to be the year for unusual visitors to the Puget Sound area. We've had a young hooded oriole, a yellow-bellied sapsucker, a swallow-tailed gull, and now a painted bunting! These colorful little birds are native to the deep south, breeding in the southeastern US and wintering in Central America. What this little fella is doing in THIS part of the country is anyone's guess, but getting a chance to see him first hand and get photos as well (even if he IS on a feeder!) is a real thrill!

What a pretty bird. How appropriate it is called a painted bunting because it looks as though it flew through a spray booth.
