stopped by the osprey nest this evening to see how the chicks are doing... i only saw one - the others were keeping down below the rim of the nest - but it appears they'll be ready to leave in another couple of weeks or so...

here's one of the juveniles having a look around...

thanks, Chad. it's carrying a partly-eaten flounder... i've seen these osprey bring back just the tail section of a flounder on several occasions. as far as i know, osprey almost never eat anything but fish, unless for some reason there's no seafood available. as Bill said, in this area, that's not a problem! there's a house sparrow nest in the lower layers of the osprey's nest, and the sparrows come and go without fear.
