this female red-breasted merganser had caught itself a fish, and the gull decided it wanted to steal the merganser's supper. a brief chase ensued, with the merganser eventually escaping with its meal intact. poor light, rain, and distance kept many of the shots i got from making the cut, but this one captures the feel of the chase..
