While waiting for Bill Anderson to show up at Marina Park, the Point Edwards eagle pair treated Janine and me to a mating sequence. I've never witnessed this before - it was a privilege to see. These are a few selected shots.
All were taken with a Canon 7D and 500mm f4L lens with a 1.4x tele-extender (700mm) at 1/1000s f6.3 ISO 1000 exposure compensation of +1... It was quite foggy and rather dark (not to mention cold!).
To save their dignities, you should have Photoshopped little black boxes across their eyes as I suggested after I arrived.
A few years ago I photographed the Hutt Park(?) pair doing the same thing in the tall firs that were on Hanna Park Road and visible from the north end of Sunset Ave. That was before the new owners of the property clear cut the lot to make room for construction of their trophy home.
I read that they don't necessarily have babies every year.
2011: Pt. Edwards pair had one.
2012: Pt. Edwards pair had none, Lake Ballinger pair had one.
2013: Pt. Edwards pair had two, Hutt Park pair had two, Lake Ballinger pair had none.
I don't know where the nest of the Pt. Wells pair is located.
