Band-tailed pigeon. They roost in my next door neighbor's tree,

Thanks! So he's not a super rare bird that will bring birders flocking to my yard, LOL.
I was guessing he was a pigeon, but they're not common in my yard. I do have a lot of the Ring Neck Doves that frequent the yard as well. They were a rarity when they first appeared a few years back, but now they're daily visitors. I later found out they're invasive and spreading like wildfire. "Mine" are quite large, and the local hawks occasionally have one for dinner.

One day my wife was in the back yard and thought she heard an owl hooting. I said no, it's just the band-tailed pigeons cooing.
Surprisingly, I never see them at my feeders even though they are just next door.
First I've noticed this guy, we'll see how often he comes around. My doves were regulars but I haven't seen any in the last few days. Then again, they seem to wander off, especially if I miss filling the feeder for a few days, and then they come back randomly. I recall being all worried about them the first winter, thinking they were unusual and hoping to keep "my" flock going through the cold and dark days. I later found out they breed like rabbits, are invading nearly the entire country and I was pretty much worrying for absolutely no reason whatsoever, LOL.
