black scoter

went down to Edmonds this afternoon - not much going on at the pier, so i headed over to Brackett's Landing. pretty quiet there too, at first. Stefan showed up and we spend a pleasant afternoon chatting and taking photos. this pair of black scoters, male and female, was the highlight of the day, as i hadn't gotten a shot of one before. they came in relatively close - probably 30-35 yards - and i was able to get some nice images. they hung around for about 10 minutes and then disappeared...

Good shots. I told you when you called me that you have a touch for drawing in the birds. I have never seen a black scoter that close.

I should have joined you. I didn't care about the Broncos-Pats game and the Panthers-Cards game was a fiasco.

thanks, Bill! like i said, he was probably about 30 yards out, maybe a skosh more, and these images are cropped pretty aggressively, but he was definitely close enough for some good shots. i'd never seen a black scoter before at all, so it was a treat for me!

This is the second winter that black scoters have been hanging out north of Brackett's Landing.
