stopped by Canyon Park this afternoon, and was rewarded with some shots of a green heron who obligingly flew and landed about 40 feet away and posed for me for several minutes before disappearing into the weeds...

initially, it was perched on a dead willow branch... it squawked and then took off...

didn't go far, though... it landed at the water's edge no more than about 40 feet from the path and posed for this full-frame shot...

after posing for several minutes, it began hunting in the shallows...

What brand of bird seed are you using to bribe those Canyon Park birds into standing next to you and posing?

it varies... the herons don't eat seed, so i keep a small baggie with feeder fish for them in my pocket. gotta be careful when i sit down, though... :p
