Cooper's hawk (i think)

i can never really tell a Cooper's from a sharp-shinned for sure, but i think this is a Cooper's... taken at Magnuson Park this afternoon. he flew in and landed about 20 yards away, and just sat there looking around for about 5 minutes, while i took a number of shots. 7D, 500mm, 1/160 @ f/7.1

Good call with Cooper's. I'm going to say an immature Cooper's hawk. The matures have darker backs in the wings, darker head and orange eyes.

thanks, Chad! yeah, i'm really enjoying the new toy... it's a definite improvement over my trusty 100-400L, and not just in "reach", either!

Life's eternal questions: Ginger or Maryanne, Cooper's or sharp-shinned. I always go with Cooper's just because they seem more prevalent than sharpies.

I am thinking of replacing my trusty 100-400L with Canon's new version.

thanks, Bill... though i have to say, it was far easier to tell Maryann and Ginger apart than Cooper's and sharpies...
