Back from Southern Utah. Here are a couple of sunrise shots from Dead Horse Point State Park looking out over Canyonlands National Park. This is a very special place even after an absence of about 35 years, it still takes my breath away.
C&C encouraged! BTW - this is just the first of many shots you may be subjected to over the next few days as I get them processed.
That is my favorite place in the whole Moab area. Most people don't even know it's there in their rush to arches. Lovely shots. Can't wait to see the rest.
Well, you actually are. The overlook is at about 6000 ft. elevation - about 1000 ft. above the nearest level of the canyon (the one where you can see the road), while the Colorado River is about another 1000 ft. below that.
Here is another one from Dead Horse Point a little bit later in the sunrise. I'm not so happy with the way Elements 8 originally merged the sky on this one. I'll have to see if I can do something about that.
[EDIT] This version should have a better sky - I hope!
Thanks, Dead Horse Point is a very special place. 40 years ago you could camp right out on the point - where the picnic tables are now. Then it was easy (easier, any way) to get great sunrise shots. You just woke up, grabbed your camera, and shot. The campground has been moved a few miles back from the point now. And since I'm less interested in camping now, I had to wake up at 4:30AM in a Moab motel, drive the 45 miles to the point, and wait in below freezing temperatures for the sun.
Still, it was well worth it. I did it twice while I was in the area!
I'll have to see if I can do something about that.
