This photo is from many hours spent upwind from the large nesting colony on the breakwater at the Blaine waterfront.
 
Great shots. Sunday I watched several episodes of a series on the NatGeo Wild channel on wildlife in China. There was a brief segment on fishermen using cormorants to catch fish. The cormorants looked pretty much like the one in your photo.

Photographing birds from a kayak may be my next challenge. You should start a thread on the subject. Having never kayaked, I would be interested in what/how much photo gear you pack and any precautions you take to protect it from the moisture.

They, along with Caspian Terns, have become rather controversial on the Columbia River. They have found some great nesting sites on man made islands created as a result of dredging and now are a problem for small salmon returning to the sea.
 
There are a few dams on the Columbia that create problems for small salmon as well.
Caspian Terns, cormorants, sea lions at the Ballard Locks....scapegoats one and all.

Just sayin'.
