I'm loving Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge this time of the year. Sure, I have another refuge and several natural areas near my home but Ridgefield is special. Unit S, is open to cars so you can shoot from your 4 wheel blind. What a treat.

One of their polite reminders. (Please do break the rules, we don't want to lose this treasure. Hunters are just across the dike, waterfowl do know that people are predators and often take off when people step out.) Following the rules is - Warning Pun Alert - for the birds.

It's not far from Vancouver lake, just north. Google Ridgefield Natioanal Wildlife Refuge and the map will come right up. But it is well marked on the I-5 freeway at exit 14. Go east into the town of Ridgefield, Take a left on 9th and continue on until you see the entrance on the right.

one of these days, i expect i'll have to make a pilgrimage down to Ridgefield, just to say i've been there... looks like a pretty decent place for birds...
