.... towards the trees next to the railroad tracks.
After landing in one of the bare trees, it started working on breaking off branches.
Then it took off with some of the branches in its talons and headed towards its nest. I have often wondered what it would be like to be sipping a latte on the balcony of your Pt. Edwards condo and have one of the eagles fly past at eye level.
I drove up Pt. Edwards later in the afternoon and found the male drying itself off on the family tree at the top of Pine St. Judging by the matting of its feathers, it must have been diving for birds or fish in Puget Sound.
The female was perched in the family tree at the end of Pt. Edwards Place......
where she enjoyed a beautiful view of Puget Sound.
All the while keeping an eye on her mate up the hill.
They are not visitors. They quite literally live here and their nest is not far away. Our four local resident bald eagle pairs disappear for two months from mid-August through mid-October, then return like clockwork. I suspect they spend those two months looking for salmon up your way along the Stilliguamish. After photographing them for four years, I pretty much know their local hangouts.
We are also entertained from mid-Oct. through mid-Aug. by transient juvies and sub-adults.
